Croatia is a country full of villages, quiet coves that are simply heavenly and people who embody the warm, peaceful Mediterranean atmosphere. Best of all, though, you will feel incredibly relaxed as a tourist here. One great thing about visiting Croatia is that you can enjoy the sun, sea and historical sites accompanied by typical Mediterranean scenery. With 1,185 islands and 4,800 km of Mediterranean coastline, Croatia is transformed into one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Europe during the summertime. |
| | ZAGREB Zagreb used to be overshadowed by Belgrade when the region was part of Yugoslavia, but as the new capital of Croatia, it is now a self-confident city that boasts historical artwork, monuments and a colourful nightlife. The old buildings, houses, churches and museums in the district known as the upper city (Gornji Grad) appear to have completely overcome all traces of the difficult war it experienced. St Mark’s Church with its tile-covered roof is a special surprise waiting here for tourists. Other important tourist sites in Zagreb include the Parliament Building, the National Museum of Fine Arts, and a museum that was converted from the house and workshop owned by the famous Croatian sculptor, Ivan Meštrović. Visitors can enjoy a host of colourful sights at Dolac, Zagreb’s best-known marketplace. The market is frequented by tourists because it offers a selection of handicrafts as well as a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. St Stephen’s Cathedral is undeniably Zagreb’s most magnificent building. The decorations, both inside and out, attract the most visitors of any building in the city and its Neo-Gothic facade makes it a favourite subject for photographers. |
DUBROVNIK One of the hottest destinations in Croatia and even in Europe is Dubrovnik, a town that becomes more popular each summer with its narrow streets, city squares surrounded by cafes, impressive city walls and deep blue sea. After having recovered from intense bombing during the war, the city continues to develop its tourism potential. Considered the entertainment centre of Croatia, Dubrovnik is especially well known for its cultural events and night life during the summer. | | |
