As every city or town claims to be the most in something, Zurrieq is not an exception. This village is the southern most point you can go in Europe. Its name is coming from the colour of the blue sea that is nearby.
The main attractions of the village are the feasts which take place during the summer season. The first is in July and the other is in September. These colourful feasts mainly show the character of the mediterenean people. Their devotion to the saints as well as the warm street festivities and also the hot temperament as a result of the sun and the excessive alcohol consumption during the celebrations!!
Being sitiuated on a hill top, Zurrieq owns various places from where fantastic views can be seen. One of them is the belveder overlooking the Blue Grotto. It is worth a stop and shoot some pics.
Going down to Wied z Zurrieq, a nearby fishing valley, you can catch a boat and visit a complex of 7 caves, all of them showing the crystal blue sea.
Remember that the heaviest great white landed in the mediterranean was in this place. Infact all cafes and restaurant shows pics and cuttings from news papers. This happened more than 15 years ago, so don t be afraid!! You can still meet the fisherman who caught this shark. This guy can be recognised from his necklace. Guess what? One of the teeth of the great white!!!
