This small riad is so charming, and very tastefully decorated with Moroccan details. At night lanterns are lit around the courtyard's small dipping pool. The pool is also softly lit in emerald tones. When I took a dip, there were even rose pedals, and towels conveniently placed nearby. The roof terrace is a wonderful place to chill out at the end of the day, and offers a great view of the other roof tops in the medina. I loved to be up there for the last call to prayer, and occassionally caught the sillouette of someone on another roof in what looked like a state of prayer or meditation.
Riad Azzar really gives a lot of importance to detail with the roses in the rooms, and bathrooms, fresh orange juice everyday, soft music in the parlor, and wine upon request. Fatima's cooking is also incredible. I recommend at least one dinner at the riad.
The owners were not there when I visited but the staff was so helpful and upbeat. I was able to communicate with them in my limited French. They set me up with two guides while I was there, one for a morning tour of the medina, and the other for a day tour of the Berber
villages in the Atlas Mountains. Both guides were great.
Although the riad is very close to Jemaa El-Fna but still hard to find because the maps of the
medina are so poor. I'd advise that you have someone from the riad met you in the square so you don't spend an hour lost in the medina like I did. I would tell any woman traveling alone to Morocco for the first time, as I did, to stay here because, once you get your barings, you will realize how great the location is.
Unique Qualities: The roof terrace, the dipping pool, the authentic Moroccan food, the many services the riad
provides, including massages, location, location, location!
