I only spent one night in Perth as I was on a stopover on my way to Paraburdoo but what I saw of Perth I liked. Perth more than other capitals has changed so much over the years and now has a population of over 1.1million people and is the fourth largest city in Australia.
Its unique situation on the water plays a important part in the citys way of life, and why one in four household owns some sort of boat.
Captain Charles Freemantle hoisted the union Jack on the mouth of the Swan River and on May 2nd 1829 took possesion of the western part of 'New Holland' in the name of the British crown.
Then with the discovery of Iron, nickel, and diamonds Perth became the headquarters of the mining companies in the 1960s.
And now Perth reflects its prosperity with gleaming new hotels and big buisness centres and lots of entertainment attracting many sporting tournaments..
