First visit

Pineda de Mar is located in the middle of the "Costa del Maresme", in between the coastal mountain range and the sea. Distant some 55 km from Barcelona and some 45 km from Girona, Pineda de Mar standsin the centre of a main communications network formed by the N-II road, C-32 Motorway and the railway, the latter with trains departing every 20 minutes. Pineda is a privileged place featuring a long and wide sandy beach of outstanding quality. A wide range of accommodations is available -hotels, apartments and campings - together with bars, terraces and restaurants. The town has a dynamic and charming commercial centre, as well as a pleasant urban layout, with greeny squares (52), groves, water fountains, flowerbeds and lawns. All this, and a wide variety of cultural events and activities, makes Pineda an ideal place to enjoy family holidays.

Since Pineda de Mar is located at the gate of the MontnegreNaturalPark, its Mediterranean woods are an additional pleasure to those of the sun and the beach. The climate in the area is very mild, and the average temperature fluctuates around 17° C.

For visitors who like to sport, there are numerous venues to choose from - swimming pool, football pitch, sports centre - and those who love water sports can benefit additionally from a well-equipped nautical facility.Pineda de Mar is an ideal departing place for all types of outings, walking or biking, thanks to the nearby MontnegreNaturalPark and its outstanding beautiful landscapes. Regarding culture, Pineda de Mar is home to the "Fundació Tharrats" (Tharrats Foundation) of Graphic Arts, located in an atypical building - "Can Comas", designed by Javier Mariscal - which contains what undoubtedly constitutes one of the best collections of this artistic modality. The foundation is home to a permanent legacy of graphic arts from the artist Joan Josep Tharrats -the soul of the Foundation- as well as works from other renowned creators such as, for instance, Miró, Tàpies, Brossa, Guinovart, Clavé, Ponç, Fontserè or Subirachs. The "Can Comas" building lodges the town's intense cultural activity: concerts, exhibitions and courses are scheduled the year round.

Pineda de Mar still keeps many sites bearing witness to its past. From the archaeological remains of the Roman and Iberian era to the modern sport zone, and of course, "Can Comas", we can experiencea chronological journey through the history of Pineda de Mar, stretching some two thousand years.

Economic activity in Pineda de Mar is mostly centred in the service sector, commerce, tourism and industry (diverse, but mainly textile). As in most of the coastal towns, the economic evolution of Pineda de Mar has prompted an increase in services and commerce at the expense of the traditional agriculture.
