Kyoto Transportation
Sort by: Most Recent | Best Rated | Author's Order

Transportation: Tokyo-Kyoto in three hours
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': TO
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: If you are already in Japan, the only way to get to Kyoto is by 'shinkansen' bullet train. The first line between Tokyo and Osaka was opened in time for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, and since then the fleet of high-speed trains has carried a couple of billion passengers without a single fatality. The service is fast, frequent and reliable. It's even possible to visit Kyoto in a day from Tokyo: a round trip of more than 1000 kilometres!

    Transportation: Kyoto by bus
  • Tip Rating:
  • 'Mode': AROUND
    Category: Other
Getting TO/AROUND: Kyoto has a simple and very efficient subway system - but you don't see much when you are hurtling through an underground tunnel. To get a better feel for the city, take a bus. It's a bit confusing at first, but no problem at the end of the day: most of the buses seem to head for Kyoto station.
