The Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side are two and a half times the length of the American Falls, and carry four times as much water crashing over the brink. The volume is greater because the Niagara river flows unimpeded, while the volume of water at the American Falls is reduced as it flows past Goat Island in the middle of the Falls.
