Old Cliffie was sitting, friendless as usual, in a little bar in a side street in Heidelberg. It was a late Friday afternoon, work over for the week, and a weekend of lonely Ennui and Angst ahead of him. And then Sabine and Marlene walked in. They sat at old Cliffie's table and ordered beers. Old Cliffie, surreptitiously eyeing them in the way that guys do, was caught out when Marlene suddenly looked up and saw him watching her. She nudged Sabine and whispered, Sabine giggled and whispered back, and simultaneously they said 'Hello'. Having been given the go-ahead, old Cliffie effortlessly moved into Italian chat-up mode and quickly had the two girls hanging on to his every word. Well, that's how he likes to remember it, anyway. They were law students in Heidelberg, friends since elementary school, and both from the same town near Ulm. And like all students they were short of cash, and didn't have the money to go home for the weekend for the birthday of Sabine's mother. Old Cliffie, always chivalrous and generous to a fault, offered to drive them to Ulm. And that was how a weekend of mindless boredom turned into a weekend of unexpected fun as old Cliffie outrageously flattered Sabine's mother on her birthday and was then dragged around the bars of Ulm by Sabine and Marlene. They taught him the tongue-twister about the city. Just don't try saying it after a few beers! |

RhineRoll Thu Aug 23, 2007 15:00 UTC LOL... I can hardly say that when I'm sober and I'm a native speaker ;) | abvideo Wed Mar 7, 2007 15:58 UTC The Brotmuseum seems to be the only such museum in Europe ! | Nemorino Wed Feb 21, 2007 08:46 UTC Glad those two girls showed you a good time in Ulm after you drove them there. Ulm was one of our stops on a Danube canoe trip to Vienna in 1962. Now I go there occasionally (by train, though, not the A8) and have just posted a VT page about it. | Mariajoy Wed Mar 30, 2005 10:25 UTC Hi Michael. Glad you were able to swap a weekend of Ennui and Angst for the companionship of Sabine and Marlene - sounds like they were more fun anyway :)) |
