Quite an experience! | Approaching Vladivostok by road, from airport. |
Yeah! I knew Russia seemed to be a really different kind of an european country, but.....I didn't imagine that so much different!. And Vladivostok is perhaps one of the most peculiar and evokative of their great cities. In the very first moment, for someone that has never traveled there, it was shocking, over all for the sense of helplessness and precariety of people's uses, over all due to the fact that hardly anyone speaks a word of english there!.
But initial shock soon changes intro a wish to discover every new thing you begin to discover after each corner, after each custom of their interestig inhabitants. OK: one of the most interesting things are not the landscapes, the architecture and so....the most interesting are the singular people and the way they see the world around.
And after only 4 days, despite of the precariety you can see everywhere, the problems russian people you see they have to deal....you smell the capabilities, the opportunities, the big chances thet can have one day. And somehow you feel that strange sense of affection in the moment you fly away from that country called Russia that only few days before you felt as an hostile one. And then you realise you wish to return soon.... |

HORSCHECK Fri Oct 21, 2005 23:36 UTC Welcome to VT. Fabulous start about an obviously fascinating city. Keep up the good work. :o) | Upstate1NY Thu Oct 20, 2005 20:24 UTC You are VERY lucky, 400 rubles is NOTHING compared to what the REAL Taxi wants for this trip, domestic to international. I told the man "nyet sapcebo" (no thanks) when he asked for 40 euro!! The bus is 7 ruble,0.18 USD, 0.15 euro |
