I was in London on my first overseas trip, and I woke up one morning at 4:30am and decided there and then I was going to Edinburgh for the day. The rail fare wasent a problem as I had a Britrail Pass. So I got up and got to the rail station and on a train I got and went to Edinburgh.
I had a fabulous day, Ir really explored the Old city, and rose street in the new city that has all the pubs.
It was a few days before the festival so the castle was closed for preparations (and there were so many people anyhows it would have been chaos) and I passed on Holyrood palace due to time constraints, but did see the ruined abbey.

Hi Steve, I’m glad you enjoyed your day trip to Edinburgh. I see you even caught a rainbow in your Royal Mile photo. My younger son studied in Edinburgh, so I used to visit him there occasionally, but I haven’t been back since his graduation.
Thanks Don, I only had 1 day there, but it was a lot of fun. The old town is wonderful
