"Hawkes Bay" Hawkes Bay by stevemt

When I lived in Ashhurst and had horses, I had a lot to do with a person called Freda White.

Freda White was a known horse woman, trainer, and huge character. She was from a wealthy Hawkes Bay family that during the depression lost nearly all of its money. She went into the only area she knew, horses. Did she know them, she did. She won most of the show trophies in the North Island of New Zealand and then some. She was also a respected trainer of racehorses, mainly jumpers.

When we traveled to race meetings to Hawkes Bay we would stop at the top of the range that borders the region, and she would always say "the beautiful bay" and it is beautiful as are the poeple here.
