where ancient history and new technology meet Seoul is the metropole of Korea. Including the surrounding areas, there are near 20 million inhabitants, almost all of which are Korean, making Seoul, and Korea in general, one of the most homogenous sites on earth. Seoulites work 12 hour days, and some even have second jobs. Their hard work, however, is clearly visable by observing the amazing city that has burgeoned in such a short amount of time, rivaling any international megalopolis in all categories. Seoul has extremely polluted air, the third worst in the world, but this is offset by the incredible effort to recycle mandated and accepted by the government and the people, respectively. The first observation I made was that in the morning, Seoul is relatively clean for a city this large; trash, leaves, and cigarette butts disappear every morning. Also, the people are very kind and polite. Many do not speak English conversationally, but I have found that most Koreans of all ages are constantly studying English, in an effort to make their visitors more comfortable, and still try to help in any way they can. Please visit my tips pages, which I hope has some unique advice and perspectives on my favorite city in the world so far- Seoul. |
