Located north a short drive north of Liverpool, Southport boasts to be a revitalised seaside resort. For years it has been neglected by its closest neighbour Blackpool. As Blackpool grew and grew Southport suffered from a lack of cash flow, as a consequence the town went down hill with the final straw being the closure of its pier. In 2000 work started on the pier and almost at the same time started work on the promenade area. Today Southport is still quieter than its neighbour; however instead of competing on style of resort, Southport has promoted itself as quiet resort for amore mature clientele. |
