San Juan, Capital of Puerto Rico, is known like "The City Walled", is the oldest city under the flag U.S. In 1508 Juan Ponce De León, founded the original establishment, Caparra, al western of the present metropolitan area. The city was built in an islet there for the year of 1521 by Juan Ponce de Leon. The place that today Old San is called Juan was the personal vision of Ponce of Lion. He helped to design the city, he supervised the construction of their massive walls and he determined what structures they should be built and where. Many of the places of the area of the old city were built in the century XVI and are national historic places and world
The Old one San Juan was built as a military court summons. He is a place that you can visit 500 years of history in a day. The area covers 7 square blocks of narrow streets paved in cobblestones, aligned with old colonial houses with its balconies and patios. The fortresses and the walls of the Old one San Juan are among the better preserved in the hemisphere. The area this full one of houses, churches and old plazas that represent the most appreciated architecture of the Caribbean.
The Hut, a box of sentry in the Castle THE Nose, has come to symbolize to Puerto Rico and THE Old one San Juan. The name of the city of San Juan has suffered through the years a curious change. When it took place the discovery of the island, November 19, 1493, the Admiral Christopher Columbus baptized it San Juan Baptist. Years later the conquering one Juan Ponce of Lion, during the exploration of the north coast, discovered an extensive bay to which qualified as "Puerto Rico". They passed the time they exchanged the names; the island passed to be called Puerto Rico, and the bay, the port and the city, San Juan.
