Bali Pulau Dewata

by nusabali - last update: May 19, 2009

When someone mentions Bali and the idea of beaches, suntaning, surfing comes to mind. Something like Baywatch. Kuta beach is popular with surfers both amateurs and professionals. Although the pros will look for challenging beaches like Dreamland or Padang-Padang. For beginners who like to learn how to surf can rent the surfboard and hire the local beach boys tending the stalls to teach you for Rp100,000 per hour inclusive of board. Kuta Beach is also one of the place to watch beautiful sunset.
Bali is full of beautiful sceneries like Kintamani a change of weather is felt in this high mountain area where it is very cool and also Lak Beratan in Bedugul where you will find the weather a contrast to Kuta, Sanur or Nusa Dua to name a few.

Bali and its people

Bali is an island where most of the people are Hindus. Most of the businesses are run by women as seen at the Kuta Art Market (below) and also in the other areas of Bali. Everywhere you go in Bali, you will find lots of shops selling teeshirts, bags, sandals, bedspread, placemats etc. and the style of buying is through the art of bargaining. However the Balinese are very friendly, always smiling and helpful. We have made a good number of friends there and we meet up each time we are in Bali as well as keeping in touch thru sms. Pretty high-tech.
Transportation are a plenty in Bali from metered-taxis to mini-vans for hire and Ojeks (motorbikes that take you thru the back lanes as shortcut to beat the main traffic.) and also motorbikes for hire.

Places of Interest

Bali has lots of places of interest for evry individual taste. Spas are aplentiful in Bali and very much cheaper. Had a 4 hours spa treatment on my last trip and paid S$85 inclusive of transfers. I can't get that mount in Singapore considering I spent 4 hours being pampered and feeling rejuvenated. Usually do this on the eve of my return to Singapore. Although I have done the tours many times but I still love going to Kintamani to savour the cool climate, Ubud to walk through Monkey Forest Road and watch the skill artist at work with their paintings. Weather in Ubud is quite cool. Lots of cafes for to sit back , relax and watch the world go by and you will find many boutique hotels in Ubud for those who prefer to be away from the Kuta crowd. Dropping by in Gianyar to visit my woodcarver friends . Love to wonder thru their showroom looking at the beautiful carvings (3D) frames, paintings and furnitures.
Uluwatu is a place I never tire visitng. The view from up there is so mesmerising and watching the sunset is really beyond description. So you have to see for yourself to feel what I mean. Tanah Lot the most photographed temple in Bali is another favourite of mine. You can walk out to this temple built on the rocks at sea only during low tide. You can watch dolphins in the early mornings in Lovina Beach, beautiful rice terraces in Tabanan or for the adventurous go white water rafting in the Ayung River.
There is really lots to do in Bali depending on individuals and for those who like the slow quiet pace of daily life may choose to stay in Sanur.
Legian and Kuta are home to numerous night spots and popular restaurants as well as in Seminyak and Kerobokan.
