Tubing Any Texan knows that the place to go tubing is in New Braunfels. For the biggest crowd and longest float, hit the Guadalupe River. Here you can float 6 hours and even longer. Load up a cooler with beer, throw it on a tube, and float down the river on a hot summer day. Another fun river is the Comal. It's only a 2 hour float but it goes right through the middle of the town and is lined by homes on both sides. If your lucky, some of the residents might throw you some jello shots. And to top it off, Texas Tubes even offers night floats! |
Kayaking Kayaking in the upper Guadalupe River is also very popular. There are many outfitters where you can rent kayaks that also provide transportation. |
Lodging Lodging will depend on what time of the year you visit. Both rivers are cold, even in the heat of the Texas Hill Country Summer. In late Spring you can camp in one of the many state parks. I love to camp but if we go in the summer, the nights are just too hot. I prefer to get a hotel room. Getting a room in New Braunfels in the summer can be expensive, solely because of the town's water attractions. If you don't mind driving about 15-20 minutes, you will be able to find more economical lodging in San Marcos. |
