Twinlights Lighthouse sits in the community of Highlands, New Jersey--from its heights one has a spectacular view of Sandy Hook Peninsula, which is across the bay from New York City.
We always bring our out of town visitors to this site because the view is breathtaking. The panorama stretches many miles from the Jersey Shore to Manhattan--on clear days New York City is clearly visible. Boats zip along the water and beach goers head for Sandy Hook's beaches.
Twinlights is a state historic site located in Highlands, New Jersey. The original lighthouse was built in 1828, but replaced in 1862 by the structure that currently sits atop the hill. A small museum is located at the base of the lighthouse--visitors are welcome to climb the many steps to the top. Stop by to see the original Fresnel Lens located in a building adjacent to the museum.
Hours of operation are daily from 10 am-5 pm Memorial Day to Labor Day. Grounds open from 9 am to sundown. There is no charge.
- Pros:Wide ocean views; spectacular vista

Another reason to visit New Jersey. Wonderful information and brilliant photographs that are quite alluring. Thanks for the grand tour.
Very good tips including the restaurant one! Definetely a place to visit for every beach and history lover!
I love the ocean & the beach - you have some great tips here!!
I love to go shelling, especially after a storm. Seagull's nest is a great name for a beach restaurant. Interesting page, Veronica
