Updates and Travel Notes.... | The Belles of Jefferson,Texas |
UPDATE: A special weekend in Jefferson, Texas gave us the opportunity to tour historic homes, view a skirmish between the Blue and the Gray and explore the Big Cyprus Bayou. See why we like this small East Texas town! I've added lots of updates and some new pics and places!
New Tips: FORT WORTH EVENTS
April brought the magnificent Fort Worth Art Fest--here you'll discover high quality art, diverse entertainment and fun! When we visited, it was shoulder to shoulder people...but everyone wanted to be there!
Also, for an evening of live music in the hub of the cultural district, we attended First Friday at the Modern Art Museum, a monthly event we hope to visit again. Here's the best news...there 's no charge for this musical presentation.
March arrived and so did Spring Gallery Night. An event which welcomes the public to a number of galleries and museums featuring new and veteran artists. This artsy opportunity is scheduled twice a year.
SEE MY FORT WORTH, TX. PAGES FOR FIVE NEW TIPS ON THESE ABOVE EVENTS !
New Tips: DALLAS and other nearby events
(April) The 2008 Byron Nelson Golf Championship was just held this past weekend in Irving, Texas. This was the first event of this kind we've ever attended and we loved it. The tv cameras and parade of celebrities made it an exciting day! Please wander to my IRVING page for two new Sports Tips.
The Meyerson Symphony Center is one of the jewels of Dallas, Texas. We had the occasion to not only take a backstage tour, but experience a symphony here one Sunday afternoon. Check out my Dallas page for more details....

2008 Travel...So Far
In February we introduced ourselves to Jefferson, Texas to celebrate our anniversary and the Mardi Gras. A few miles further, we discovered Caddo Lake State Park, where the only natural lake in Texas is located. It was a fun weekend!
Celebrating New Year 2008 in San Antonio was an exhilarating event. We love this historic Texas city! I've added several new tips on this site.
Following Christmas we had a few mild days, so we returned to Glen Rose, Texas for another look at Dinosaur Valley State Park. It's amazing to think that evidence of prehistoric reptiles has been permanently recorded along the banks of the Puluxy River. It's a great place to explore!

PERSONAL TIDBITS
Most of my family are in Pennsylvania, but some are in Chile, too. I love cruising! I am really fond of CATS! My husband and I enjoy smooth jazz. I putter at freelance writing. When we visited Pablo Neruda's homes in Chile (Valparaiso, Santiago and Isla Negra)--I found myself wishing that I could absorb some of his creativity!
Our family is enamored with history and museums! We love to travel, especially on the weekends--it doesn't always have to be far. Researching the internet for our next vacation is exhilarating. I journal when we travel and often collect matchboxes since it's a good way for me to remember names and addresses of restaurants and hotels.
I'm an avid reader and prefer books on history, but lately travel guides are at the top of my list!
I dream of returning to Italy--Rome, but especially Florence. Our family traveled to Florence when I was in college and I would LOVE to return with my husband. The turbulent history, dramatic architecture and romantic atmosphere all combine to create a special destination. |
A first and second VT mini-meet--October 2007 On a recent October weekend, Kay (kyoub) and I met along with our husbands at Thai Chili in Southlake, Texas. It took us two years to finally do it--what a wonderful event and the first VT meet for both on October 6.
Southlake's Oktoberfest was in high gear, so we walked along the sidewalks checking out the craft booths for a time.
A couple weeks later I had the privilege to meet my second VT'er--see my Albuquerque pages to find out who. |
Fort Worth Botanic Garden Friends invited us to meet them at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden to view the 'Butterflies in the Garden' exhibit on March 15th.
We thoroughly enjoyed trying to search out all the different species--8,000 butterflies will be released into this greenhouse habitat during the exhibit.
Isn't this blue butterfly lovely? It's a Blue Morpho. I've added more photos to my Fort Worth album pages on this event. |
