Great Ocean Road - Anglesea to Wye River

I was lucky enough to be able to work at the Wye River Tourist Caravan Park this month. I fell in love with the area and I would really like to live in Wye River.

Where is it?

If you travel along the Great Ocean Road from Anglesea, and follow the Great Ocean Road around the coast, you will pass through Airey's Inlet and Lorne. Not far along from Lorne you will drive through Separation Creek and just over a small road bridge past Separation Creek is Wye River.

We travelled down to Wye River for three days in a row and cleaned the Cabins at the Wye River Tourist Caravan Park. The work was not too hard, I sweated out a few kilos (hopefully) and we cleaned to the tune of the birds in the trees around the caravan park. It almost seemed criminal to be paid to work there.

Wye River winds through the Caravan Park (methinks that is why the name is Wye River - lol), and then down to the ocean. The ocean is only five minutes walk away from the Caravan Park. Mind you, the Great Ocean Road also winds through Wye River so watch out for traffic when you cross the Great Ocean Road to head to the ocean. Locals do a lot of fishing off the shore.

Ocean View

You really have to drive along the Great Ocean Road to appreciate it.

The road is literally cut in to the side of the cliff or rock face in some places. The road winds around the cliff face and rock face and the ocean is usually only a few feet away from the side of the road.

Imagine how long it took to construct this road! Most of the labour was performed by convicts who did it the hard way - picks, shovels, and lots of manual labour.

Always remember that Great Ocean Road, as magnificent as it is, is also a killer and many people have lost their lives by driving carelessly, speeding, falling asleep at the wheel, or through the carelessness of other drivers on the road.

Cumberland River

Cumberland River is one of the small rivers that flows in to the ocean along the Great Ocean Road.

At Cumberland River there is the Cumberland River Resort.
