Founded in 1916, 277-square-mile Hawaii Volcanoes National Park exists to protect and make accessible to the public the world’s most active volcano – Kilauea. The volcano has been erupting continuously since 1983, and is responsible for the continued expansion of the island. With steam vents, lava flows, tube caves, rainforests, and deserts to explore, as well as some scenic drives, a visit to the park is one of the highlights of any trip to Hawaii. |
