Things To Do: Stephansplatz
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Dominated by the bulky, Gothic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral), Stephansplatz is Vienna’s liveliest and most centralized square. The square and the many arteries feeding into it all heave with tourists and accompanying street performers, touts, and overpriced eateries. Bustle aside, this is one of the better spots in Vienna to plop down with a drink in hand and people watch. And some of the street performers are extremely talented musicians who are well worth listening to for at least a few minutes (and tipping).

Things To Do: Visit Vienna's Museums
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Given the city’s stuffiness, it should come as no surprise that Vienna is not lacking when it comes to first-rate museums. The buildings themselves are often as impressive as their contents, with some of the better museums being the Leopold Museum, the Albertina, the Haus der Musik, and the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

    Hofburg: The Hapsburg's Winter Palace
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • The Hofburg (Imperial Palace) is a complex of ostentatious and highly ornate buildings housing many of Vienna’s key tourist attractions. Among other things, the Hofburg is home to the Kaiserappartements and Sissi Museum, the Spanish Riding School, and the Burgkapelle (home to the Vienna Boys’ Choir).

Belvedere: The Baroque Palace of Prinz Eugen
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Located just south of Vienna’s main ring, Schloss Belvedere is one of Vienna’s finest palace complexes. Consisting of two Baroque mansions facing each other across a sloping manicured garden, the palace complex and the nearby botanical gardens are an excellent place to escape the tourist hordes. One ticket allows for entry into both mansions, and the Oberes Belvedere houses Vienna’s finest collection of Klimt paintings among other works.

    Ringstrasse: Vienna's Main Ring
  • Tip Rating:
  • Most of Vienna’s main attractions are located either along or within the Ringtrasse – a series of broad boulevards encircling the Innere Stadt (Vienna’s old city) to the south of the Danube Canal. Riding the trams along “the Ring” or walking along it is an excellent way to orient yourself with the city and to see many of its main attractions.
