Located between Christchurch and Greymouth along the TranzAlpine Railway, Arthur’s Pass National Park makes for an ideal place to hop off and spend a couple days. The hop off point is Arthur’s Pass Village, which is nothing more than a train station, a national park visitor center, a few cafes, and several places of accommodation. A few short walks emanate from the village along with several longer day walks and some multi-day treks. In addition to these fine hikes, Arthur’s Pass is known as one of the better places to watch Keas, the mischievous, alpine parrots known for terrorizing locals and tourists alike. If you have a sense of humor and enjoy nature, the opportunity to watch Keas wreak havoc is reason enough to visit Arthur’s Pass, with some pleasant hiking an added bonus.

Saw yor picture of the Kea on the homepage and I just had to stop in they are one of favorite parts of New Zealand..

Beautiful pics and great tips! I had a laugh at your Kea tip, especially since my job involved electric power operations. These birds are also renowned for eating synthetic rubber insulators and causing numerous power outages!
