"Waitomo Caves" Waitomo Caves by bsfreeloader

New Zealand’s largest cave system is found in the area around Waitomo. Several companies offer various caving options that range from tame walks through glowworm caves to more adventures activities involving abseiling, rock-climbing, swimming, and crawling through tight spaces. I did Waitomo Adventures “Haggas Honking Holes,” a full-on caving experience that included three abseils, some rock-climbing, and several tight squeezes through crawl spaces. I’d say you have to be reasonably fit and neither claustrophobic nor afraid of heights to not only enjoy but survive this activity, but I came out of it unscathed and with a smile, so it isn’t too horrific. It’s definitely a different way of experiencing a cave system and something I would highly recommend.
