"Salzburg" Salzburg by June.b

My last day in Munich , I decided to go out and chose Salzburg. I'm supposed to join a tour group that costs EUR39 or sumthin' but with the mistake of the agent who's selling the tour, she told me the cost of the train ticket the previous day. So I did bought the ticket which costs EUR22 - a savings of EUR17 - and went on my own!

Who won't remember those lines from the famous musical Sound of Music. I didn't know actually that Salzburg was the location, but the city is surprisingly beautiful.

Aside from the musical/movie, the city is also the birthplace of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with a huge museum right at the old part of the city called Altstadt, where I spent most of my day.

Just as always.... I got lost. Upon exiting the main train station of Salzburg after a less than 2 hours train ride from Munich, I went with the tide of passengers entering the tourist info office. I made several thoughts - go in - go out - walk out of the station area - then finally go back and asked the lady at the tourist info and she briefly told me the way to the centrum which is not really clear to me that led me to walk away from the town instead of - to the town. I walked for more than half an hour when it should have been less than 20 minutes.

Anyhoo, people are friendly, took a coffee and a pizza along the road and the couple who owned the pizza shop gave me the much needed clear direction - alas, I found the centrum or the old town after walking along the river and saw the castle on top of the mountain - that was after another almost half an hour walk from the end of Munchener-Bundestrasse turning along Franz Josef Kai (river side), anyone who knew the area knows how far it is. Tiring but - usually rewarding.

Went back to Munich late in the afternoon by train, pack my bag, sleep and the following morning flew in to my 7th stop - Rome
