"Bursa" Bursa by June.b

Turkey's 4th largest city after Izmir, Ankara, & Istanbul (biggest).

Second Capital of the Ottoman Empire in the 14th century before Edirne and Istanbul.

It's a big city nestled on the north-west of Mount Uludag. One of the nearest out-of-Istanbul destination so there I go.

April 2009, my tthird day and Istanbul and since I've been there for so many times, I had to go out, so I decided to take a stroll down to Yenikapi port - a 12 to 15 minutes walk from my hotel in Beyazid.

There I found myself buying a ferry ticket to Yalova - to take me to Iznik (check my Iznik page) ....then Bursa.

I took a minibus from Iznik to Bursa, trip was about an hour but only upto the bus terminal where I had to take another citybus to the centrum of Bursa.

But there's a better route to Bursa, instead of taking the Yalova ferry, you can take the Guzelyali/Bursa ferry at Yenikapi port.

Bursa has a lot of sights, though the centre is really crowded - or was it Sunday when I was there?

And your patience will be put to test with the horror of traffic, especially when you have a limited time or was just there on a daytrip - juz as I was.

Fascinating though.
