Where to go & What to do & see | Providence and roads to get there. |
I used to work in Warwick, so I drove thru it twice a day. Even when you land at the TFGreen (Providence) Airport, they tell you "welcome to Providence", but you're really in Warwick. Anyway, there's lots to do in the capital of RI, but I'll tell ya my favorites!
First, you should at least walk the Providence Place Mall. It has over 3 floors of stores (it's 8 stories), and it includes a 3D (IMAX) theater and a Dave&Busters, which itself has a ton of the latest video games, a restaurant, pool tables and a bar. There's also a comedy club, and the famous Cheesecake Factory, a restaurant with amazing desserts! Just remember where you parked. I highly recommend you do not park at the lowest level, because if you walk all the way to the other end, you may not be able to get back to the area as where your car is, because the mall is shaped vertically like the letter "n". When you see a map, you'll get it, just trust me.
In the Fall, they have annual Fire Water event. The Mall is over the Providence River, and after the mall, they have mini bonfires dotting down and along the center of the river. Various music is played from hidden speakers for you to enjoy as you walk along the river. The people who feed the fires are dressed in black so you don't notice them. There are restaurants within a walk away, too.
The Providence Airport is really in Warwick, 15 minutes south of Providence, and there's a ton of eateries and hotels by the airport. Hooters is one of my favorites, particularly because I'm a fan of Buffalo-style chicken wings, and they've got quite a pair, I mean, selection to choose from :o) |
| The Mall in it's entirety |
| | Eateries There's the Capital Grill, the most expensive restaurant you can go to. It's all "al a carte", meaning the main dish doesn't include the 'sides', so you have to order them (and pay extra for them, too). If it's a date you really want to impress, dress up for, then go there, but it's not a 1st date place. This is the best, second to none as far as $$ and quality goes.
There's my favorite, Barnsiders. The best salad bar, wine reasonably priced, great service, and valet parking.
Then there's Hooters in Warwick, too! It's off Airport Rd and adjacent to the airport. And Carvel ice cream is opposite the intersection of these 2 streets... my favorite, too! Bertuccies is nearby, just to mention one I recall. |

| Pros: | "Clean, lots to see, many and great eateries" | | Cons: | "Weather and traffic (it's right on I-95) so time it right." | | In A Nutshell: | "Be at the right time at the right place, and you'll enjoy yourself." |
