Your arrival | Ready to leave the airport |
This picture shows the view of the "right half" of the airport from the car parking lot. The air traffic tower is to the left.
Gambling seems to be very popular in Romania. As I was walking to the luggage area, there were people handing out flyers that advertise the various casinos in the area. |
| | My hotel I stayed at the Golden Tulip, which has locations in various countries, and is only 15 minutes from the airport. Be very careful as the polished stone walkway is very slippery when wet!
This hotel was very nice, but compared to others, it was a palace, so make sure you get recommendations for hotels closer to your place of visit before you try to cut costs in time & money. |
| Gas is expensive, so be prepared. |
| | Gas is expensive, but so is time, so plan ahead Here are the local gas prices and octanes per liter. It is very expensive when compared to US prices per gallon Notice the old and new currency prices (called the "lei", pronounced "LAY"), which is simply divided by 10,000. (Don't forget that they use decimal points for commas.)
I highly suggest you plan your stay and commutes. It might prove to be more cost-effective to drive an hour from the airport and get a hotel closer to your place of visit, than to get a hotel near the airport and drive an hour to go to your place of visit. Time versus money, which is worth more? |

| Pros: | "Inexpensive to buy things" | | Cons: | "Gas is high, too, so be prepared." | | In A Nutshell: | "I'd go back and plan my time better." |
