"Waikiki" Waikiki by malianrob

When I come with Rob to Hawaii I dont get to see much of Waikiki. Since he is a local he tends to stay away from all the tourist spots. I like Waikiki but I do enjoy when he takes me to see the Hawaii that the locals know. Most of Robs family is is Kailua or Ewa and also in Makaha. He has some family on the Big Island and also in Maui.
We used to come more frequently to Hawaii to visit his family but lately we have wanted to try new and exciting places.

I was watching a documentary and I found out that the sand in Waikiki was brought over from Manhattan Beach CA. MB used to be nothing but sand dunes and they needed to get rid of all the sand to start building homes. At the same time Hawaii was becoming a popular vacation spot and they needed to make more beach. Tons of sand was brought over from California to Waikiki.
How about the Plumeria? Turns out that the plumeria flower was brought over to Hawaii from Mid Mexico region. It grew so well in Hawaii that most people believe it originated in Hawaii.
