Steamboat Springs/Ski Town USA My Colorado road trip started in Denver. I stayed there for a few days then drove up to Golden, Fort Collins, Estes Park, over the Rocky Mountains and ended up in Steamboat Springs. I heard alot of really great things about this little ski town so I had to see it for myself. Of course i am going in October and didnt see even alittle bit of snow, but that was ok. Going at this time was also great for me because it is their slow time of the year and the place wasnt too crowded. The prices around town were also alittle cheaper. On the down side alot of attractions were closed, for example the ski resorts as well as the hot air balloon rides that are pretty popular as well. |
Strawberry Park Hot Springs There are many hot springs to chose from and they are all pretty close. Two of them were right in town but i chose to go to Strawberry Park Hot Springs which was not too far from town. About 8 miles away. I really recommend this place because it was beautiful. They say that getting there is just part of the experience. During the winter months I think you would need tire chains or a 4x4. Luckily for me I came at the right time and I drove my little Neon there with no trouble. Part of the road is not paved as you go up the mountain but the road seems to be well maintained. Once we got there it was nice to know that we were the only ones there. There are several different pools and the temperatures vary. It was so relaxing, I felt like I was in a giant Jacuzzi. For travelers with little children there is a pool that is recommended for children because the water is not as hot. It was interesting to know that when the water comes out from the springs it is about 140 degrees and you could see the steam as the water hits the cool air. |
Wild West Balloon Adventures I didnt get to do this but it was highly recommended by a few that have come here. There advertisement says they are done all year round, weather permitting but I found out that they dont run all year round. T he balloon adventures were being done right next to my resort but not for the month of October so if it is something that you really want to do, call first to see if its open. 970-879-7219 |

Gillybob Wed Mar 11, 2009 22:00 UTC One of the fun things I like about the USA is the names they give to some of their towns and villages - I like the sound of this - and it looks lovely too!! Gillybob greetings |
