Salinas is considered the best tourist beach resort in Ecuador and the Pacific coastline. Salinas offers the most developed tourist infrastructure (regarding to accommodation, beaches, resorts and other attractions) together with the most exiting whale watching tours with luxurious yachts and professional guides.
The weather in Salinas has great temperatures all year round. The major season is warmer with temperatures between 80s-90s, while the quieter season (Mid-May to early December) has lower temperatures (between 60s-70s).

While talking with my cousins that live in Ecuador we discussed the best beaches. They felt that Salinas was very pretty and most of the well to do Ecuadoreans go to Salinas for vacations but if you are interested in a nice beach you are better off going to Esmeraldas.
They said that although the city of Salinas is great, the beaches are cold and not as clean as surprisingly beaches in Esmeraldas.
I thought that was pretty interesting considering that every book says that Salinas is the best.
