Working in Playford | Henna Nights School of Belly Dance |
I live in the north of Adelaide in a suburb called Munno Para. What once was the fringe of farmlands is now a fast spreading suburban area. We have our own business just down the road from where we live. We are the proprietors of The Henna Nights School of belly Dance. I have been dancing for 17 years and teaching for about 14. We have around 300 students and 6 teachers at the school, two of which are my daughters, Luna and Jess. My husband also teachers in his spare time. He takes tabla (drum) classes. Munno Para, our suburb, is a nice place to live. Its very quite and everything is pretty close. I have lived in the area since I was 10. Its has some rich history surrounding it. There are many historical sites such as the elephant walk and Smith's barn. Farmer Smith is said to have brought a elephant from a circus traveling through town. He used the elephant to plow his fields. Every day the two would make the journey from the house to the fields - hence the elephant walk. Playford began its life when it was chosen as the best location to house the many English migrants that were flocking here on the 10 pound fair, my Mother was one of them. Its was considered a town of the future and even attracted a visit from the Queen of England, Elizabeth. Many of the roads in the area were name after royal family members. We live a few meters from one on the states longest road which will runs from the city to Gawler, a small country town. A little further and you are in wine country. South Australia has some of the finest vineyards in the world. |
| | Out and About Like most cities we have our fair share of fetes, concerts and community events. My troupe of dancers perform at a lot of them. I really enjoy these events as they are a great way to see SA's diversity not only in its people but its landscapes. Some really cool events you might want to check out while your here are our Fringe arts festival, the Schutzen fest, Melia Indiana festival, WomAdelaide music festival, the Royal show, the Birdwood car rally... and there are many more! We also have a really great zoo, some stunning parklands and although our city is small there is some great shopping along with some excellent dinning to be had. SA is a great place to visit and you might see a belly dancer or two!! |
