I have lived it Adelaide my whole life. Its a pretty city, very relaxing and has a country small town feeling. My husband and I run one of the largest Belly dance school's in South Australia.
The thing I love most about Adelaide is the beautiful scenery. We have great beaches, wineries, and lots of rolling hills. Adelaide is famous for its country side. Travel 30 minutes in one direction and you will find yourself on a pristine beach, travel the other way for rolling countryside, to the north for our famous wineries, or just stay in the city for shopping, botanical parks and some great eating spots. Another 2 things we are known for is our pubs and churches - one of each is never more then 5 minutes away! Perhaps the two work well together!
South Australia has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world! One of our favourite places is Edithburgh. Its a great small country town on the coast. It has spectacular beaches. Its a lovely place to search for shells, go fishing, or just for a relaxing drive. If you are persistent enough and keep your eyes peeled you can spot dolphins playing in the warm waters. There are lots of birds and lizards too. If you are looking for a place to eat try one of the many pubs in our small country towns or for a more casual meal grab some fish and chips to eat on the shore. Beware of pelicans though!
The first time we visited Kuala Lumpur we only had a short stop over but enjoyed it just the same. We were really lucky to be there during Buddhist celebrations. Everywhere we went there were their divine Mandalas. After many hours of work these beautiful creations are swept up after a prayer. The sand is then added to running water so that the positive energy is spread through the world.
Recently we got to return to KL to have a good look around. We spent a few days wandering the shopping mall, visiting the bird and buttery parks. We took the aero train to the museum, walked to the National Mosque. Visited the Central, Little Indian and China town markets, where I haggled for Saris, bags and shoes. We enjoyed the view from the Pertonas and KL tower. I conquered the Batu stairs and watched the monkeys from afar. We did so much but there was still lots more e missed. Oh well we saved a few things for our next visit!
A truly beautiful city with just the best weather. Best thing is walking along the bay and visiting the markets, eating at some great restaurants and just enjoying the natural surroundings. You can catch a ferry up and down the river. Go for a swim in the popular south bank's man made beach. A short stroll through the city park lands will make you think your in a rain forest. Watch the bats dance in the sky at twilight. In the evening you can try some rock climbing on the park's cliffs or just sit a watch them do all the work. Take a drive to the gold coast for theme parks, people watching, the best beach swimming or all night clubbing at some of the cool bars and clubs.
We spent 14 heaven sent days on this island. Although the scenery was glorious, and there were a million things to see and do, it was the people we remember the most fondly. Every where we went we were made to feel welcome. Each day we would meet new people, if they spotted us the next day they would always give a warm greeting. We were fortune enough to have hit on a great tuk tuk driver. He took as everywhere for a very small fee and was wonderful company!
The Wat Chalong temple is a must if you enjoy historical buildings. Head to Patong beach for some fabulous bargains (we got an embroidered table cloth for a mere $30). Don't be afraid to haggle. For food you can eat at any of the beach side restaurants. All offer great local food at very cheap prices. We found the fare at more expensive restaurants to be considerably less satisfying.
Phuket is a great place to just unwind, soak up the atmosphere and melt away stress.
We try to make it to Melbourne at least once a year. The drive from Adelaide to Melbourne is relaxing and we normally stay a night at Ballart before heading into Melbourne.
Best thing about Melbourne is the shopping. Its great to go to the Victory markets if you have time and a little money. Most things are priced reasonably and you can find unique items.
The Melbourne art gallery is well worth a visit. The gallery has many great pieces but my favourites are the Rembrandt sketches.
My husband and me had a chance to visit Sabah in 2006. We stayed for 3 weeks visiting the National park, Kota Kinabulu and the sepilok jungle resort. We had a wonderful time. Each place offered unique experiences that we treasure. Some of the highlights include my husband, Kevin, conquering the mountain, making it to the top and back again in below average time. I was very proud of him and will never forget how tired he looked when they dropped him back to our room.
We spent a few days in Kota kinabalu getting a feel of its people, wandering around its shopping malls and markets. We had a room overlooking the ocean and we got to watch the small boats bringing people to the mainland each morning. In the evening our room would fill with the smell of fish as the trawlers brought in their catch.
From the city we travelled to turtle island where Kevin snorkeled and I relaxed on the white sandy beach. We walked the circumference of its shores and did some bird watching. At night we got to see a turtle lay her eggs and release their babies to the sea.
We spent our last week in Sandakan staying in the lush surroundings of the Sepilok jungle resort where again we spent hours watching the wild life around us. We went daily to see the orangutans and at times were reduced to tears. We were treated to the appearance of a powerful, dominant male who commanded respect and we were astonished when we saw the other orangutans bow their heads when he approached. With a simple pat on the head by him they were off and playing again. We took a 4WD to the Proboscis monkey sanctuary. They were wonderfully amazing with those lovely big noses. The jump with great skill from tree to tree. On the way back we stumbled on a local wedding and the group were nice enough to invite us in. It was a great surprise!
We were very sad when we had to leave. Perhaps we will get to go again someday. I hope so!
I have two gorgeous, loving daughters who I am very proud of. My oldest girl Luna is a professional dancer and is doing a bachelor of arts at Adelaide uni. My youngest, Jessica is still in high school and trying to decide where she wants to go in life. I miss them lots when I go away and I cant wait to tell them what I've been up to.
