Although it is not yet a city break place to go for many people, i really do love Tirana. There is something so nice about the place, i guess maybe that is the fact that there aren't tons of tourists everywhere! The place is getting better each time i return and some of the buildings are amazing. Sitting in one of many trendy bars in the 'bllok' area you could be anywhere you wouldn't think that you were in one of the poorest countries in Europe. Things that have been built lately are to a good standard and the decor is nice and trendy.

There are plenty of things to do in Tirana from looking around at the sites and museums, eatings in one of the many restaurants, doing some shopping and partying the night away in one of the clubs. Also though the is time in the afternoon's to take a walk in one of the parks and sit under a tree and have a rest as many of the people seem to do.

DURRES

Buildings in Tirana

From Tirana you can take a short trip down the road to Durres. Here you can spend time staying in one of the many hotel's along the beach. Spend time in the town or down at the beach on a hot summer's day for a swim.

Also in Tirana you can take the Dajti Ekspres cable car up to the Dajti viewing point in the mountains. From here you have great views back down over Tirana.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Nice bar's and restaurant's, shop's and buildings
  • Cons:still some bad roads and very dusty in the summer months

    I was there for 3 weeks in early 2007 and loved Tirana. The government buildings in the picture are part of the Ministry of Defense I think. Hope I get to go back.

    For some reason Tirana has always fascinated me. I would love to see it one day.
