"My Incredible India's Adventures" India by FruitLover

India is a great attraction for its huge human, artistic, architectonic, religious, philosophical and spiritual DIVERSITY.
As a Western tourist I experienced CONTRADICTING feelings:
From one hand pride of relative scientific and technological achivements and material comfort and welfare generally, facing India's inferiority in these points; On the other hand, ASTONISHMENT from the knowledge, mortification ability, simplicity, inner lighting, tranquility, fatalism and joy of life, things unattainable to Westerner in his endless racing to fulfill needs dictated by the modern culture.

Historians, archaeologists, researchers of languages and religions, and of course Indian scripts - teach us about colossal prosperous culture in India THOUSANDS of years ago. This is the VEDIC CULTURE, whose center was in India, and which had a great influence on the whole ancient world.

The scripts were written in SANSKRIT, the ancient language considered to be mother of all Indu-European languages.

My India's adventure - why, how, when, where

The trigger to my first India trip was 3 Indians (especially one of them, VTer Ashwin from Chennai) I met two years ago in Israel, through VT's Israel forum. They were looking for "a guide, a friend, and a philosopher(!)". Traveling together in the Holy Land, deep discussions, their character and behavior - strongly awoke my curiosity about India's cultures, history and spirtualism and the temptation of the UNKNOWN.

In my country India considered a destination for personal self-examination, philosophical and spiritual research. In addition, as a vegetarian I'm attracted to the Indian cuisine, based more than any other country, on vegetarian food.(Veg/non veg; Non-veg are the minority), and to alternative medicine - Ayurveda (born in Kerala, uses Ghats Hills' unique herbs).

My answer to the first invitation to visit India was a kind refusal. It wasn't at my preferences list at all. In time the idea ripened and took shape. One year before I started to read about India's cultures, religions (so many Gods, a contrast to my monotheistic religion), history, folklore. In Israeli schools we study almost nothing about India, (and vice versa). Wow, what a fascinating, exotic, mysterious, diversified unknown world, full of wisdom and divine values !! And sooooo different from the western world. Learnt more about hardcore of Hinduism in my second trip, by visiting Varanasi

The temptation of the UNKNOWN

My preperations and "homework" about India contributed to the great success of my 5 weeks trip. It was a trip of ONCE IN A LIFETIME, even if i'll go back to India 10 more times. And 3 VT friends in India - ushar(Trivandrum), DaDrifter(Delhi), A4ASHWIN(Chennai), made the difference between great to ONCE IN A LIFETIME. I love you guys ! LOVE you, singing lady !

Along my 5 weeks adventure [about 7,000 kms long] I used all (except for elephant and camal riding) possible means of Transportation (click to 'Transportation' travel tip): domestic Airplane, Auto-Rickshaw, Jeep, Car, Bicycle, Train, Boat, Bus(govmntal), Motorcycle.

Your attention, please!
That was an intro to my chaper A's adventure (Oct 2005, 5 weeks). Going to share with you some more feed-backs about my chapter B (Oct 2006, 3 weeks) along 2007. Yes, I know, MAPS, are very helpful here. I'll use them.

Anyway, I'll be more than glad to help anyone who are go to explore INcredible INdia, and to make more Indian friends.
Nameste!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:You explore and experience India more than enjoying it. India shakes your whole entity, your state of mind, all your senses
  • Cons:Poverty, misery, million beggars - where the *** is government responsibility ???
  • In a nutshell:A) Every intelligent, open-minded person MUST visit India at least once in a lifetime. B) Billion people are not wrong......

This info may be helpful when you visit India next. Seeds of Jackfruit make delicious Indian curries, can be eaten as fried or roasted snacks & believe me, they are delicious. I'm not sure if you've already tried that. We do cook that in our curries.
