General view eastern direction, from top of the tower of Lutheran Church. When visiting the Old City, that's, usually, the place I take my guests to begin with. You have to climb about 200 spiral steps to the top of the tower, and this pic is only 1/5 of the whole view around. The Temple Mount is unique whether viewed from the Mount of Olives, or from the Lutheran church tower, or from the Citadel Museum roof. Normally peaceful with its park like looking, it's hard to believe that this small square of land is the center of the world and the hottest piece of real estate anywhere on earth; And is still a central target for fanatic religious groups who want to destroy parts of it and rebuild the Temple. Imaginary scenes ?? not really. Recent history taught the Israeli security forces to be prepared for any kind of a lunatic operation.

Here there are eight Olive trees held by tradition to be the silent witnesses of Jesus prayer and suffering the evening before his crucification.

Near the Western Wall, Jewish feelings begin to surface, often to the first time, without our knowing how and why. This essential experience is both deep and mysterious: touching the stones of this still-standing ancient wall; identifying with the nation, the heritage, and the essence of life. Thoughts and feelings become clear at the Western Wall, in their pure proportions. Here is the place where lament and joy, despair and hope - unite. In 1967, soon after the liberation of the Old City, began the operation of clearing the Western Wall Plaza. Many tons of dirt and refuse were laboriously removed by hand to expose magnificent underground structures, comprising a continuous chain wrote in stone stretching from the Hasmonean era until our time. These excavations reveald the entire length of the Western Wall - 488 meters - in all its glory.

Rooms and public halls were discovered, as well as a section of a Second Temple road, a Hasmonean water tunnel, a pool, and many other finds. Here is a domain rich in roots - it was on this mountain that Avraham was worned not to "lift your hand against the youth". Issac. Here, at the foot of the Temple Mount, one can hear the songs and music of the Levites. The courses of stones evoke memories of King David and King Solomon, Ezra and Nehemiah, the Maccabees and the Sages. Kings and prophets walked along these paths.

David, the king, was lyrical, heroic, the fair-haired boy of early Biblical history. A charismatic, passionate, energetic and virile redhead, David was a child star - he defeated the giant Goliath. He forged a friendship with Saul's son Jonathan that sets a standard for selfnessness. When he was not fighting Philistines, seducing women, expanding and unifying the kingdom, David wrote devotional poems, Psalms, celebrating his love for God. In the highlight of his career, David was the one who conquered what is now known as Jerusalem, what was known as IR DAVID, the city of David, and established it as the capital city - and the emotional epicenter of Jewish life. But he was not pure enough to build the Holy Temple, for, as a warrior, his hands were stained with blood.
