The spiritual battery of the whole world

Ideas that inspired mankind

Temple mount & Western Wall in a rare snowy day
Shalom haverim [=hello friends]. My apology for the following 'BIG' words, some of which deserve a dictionary's checks. In everyday life I'm a rational, restrained & non-religious person; till the moment I reach the heart of Jerusalem, namely Old Walled city, Mount of Olives and City of David. This unique city makes me lyrical, poetic, sentimental. I feel its holiness & grace in my bones.

It was in Jerusalem that the voices of the great Biblical prophets were heard. Their censure of the immortality of the rulers and the people contained a universal ethical message, destined to ring throughout the world.

The belief in One God, in the brotherhood of man and in the rule of law;and the vision of eternal peace, were among the ideas conceived in Jerusalem which were to inspire mankind for all time.

Living in the Holy Land is an experience: I .....

Living in the Holy Land is an experience which I would like to share with you. Please have a sit and join my virtual tour! leshannah haba'ah birushalyim!

In a nutshell, practically speaking, if you want to absorb, while using all your senses, the real spirit, you have to follow these 3 essential advises, given to you for free, whatever your religion is, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism etc.:

A) Attend a Saturday meal [we call it 'seudat shabath', in Hebrew] in Jewish religious family's home, in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City, or in Mea-Shearim neighbourhood.

B) Join one hour guided tour inside Western Wall's Tunnel, details can be found in one of the following 'things to do'.

C) Climb to any roof in the Old City EARLY in the MORNING or at DUSK, and LISTEN to, WATCH & SMELL the VIBRATIONS of the city. That's one more way to feel CONNECTED to THOUSANDS years' history.

JERUSALEM OF GOLD
by Naomi Shemer
(Originally in Hebrew language)

"Mountain air as clear as wine and the scent of pine,
Carried on the evening wind with the sound of bells.
And in the slumber of trees and stones,
Imprisoned in her dream is the city which dwells alone,
A wall within her heart.

Jerusalem of gold, of copper, and of light,
Behold I am a harp for all your songs.

We have returned to the cisterns
To the market and the square.
The shofar calls on the Temple Mount in the old city.
And from the caves in the rocks, a thousand suns glow again.
We will go down to the Dead Sea by way of Jericho.

Jerusalem of gold, of copper, and of light,
Behold I am a harp for all your songs".

Cradle of three monotheistic religions

"Jerusalem is the energy center of the world. All three major religions were born on the same piece of Earth. It's like the spiritual battery of the whole world."
-Roseanne Barr, actress

Sadly, Jerusalem has been -- and for many, still is -- a metaphor for destruction and the vengeance of an offended God. She is the city where believers have killed unbelievers to give life to faith.

In Jerusalem, the various modes of worship essentially stood for the same cause but were equally hateful to one another. They never served as a unifying factor. Their adherents were equally manipulated by the clergies to regard the others as wicked infidels or idolaters. The centuries passed in constant pious agitation and in frequent religious wars.
