Friendly People

This was my Last Spring Break trip as an Undergrad. This trip was kind of special to me for that reason as well as it would have been my first time back to Germany in about 17 or so years. I was born there and German was my first language ( though it dont speak it now), so it was like going home. And luckly I wasnt doing the normal tourist thing of staying at a hotel, but my friend Angie and her Estenfeld friends took us in and treated us like roomies. The great thing about it was it was like we had a host family of people our own age, and our energy level to show us what Germany was really like! But Estenfeld played mostly as our home base, being as we spent most of our trip to Germany in Wurzburg, a short busride away. We did stop by Heidelburg and Wienhiem as well (both very much see places.) Please see my other pages for more info.

The best thing about this trip...

One great thing about this trip was that I didnt stay in a hotel but at a friends house with roomates in Estenfeld. We were able to meet some of the locals and have some nice meaningful encounters. I really loved the safe feeling of the town. Four of us ( all female) were able to go for a walk at 4am and no one was trying to bother or molest us. Not recommended in every town of course but if you can ... enjoy it while it lasts. Walking the coble stone streets and looking at the frescos in all the homes and buildings. It feels like you making you way through a pop-up picture book. And it gives each place its own personality or quirk.

Take a Hike

One of the days that we did not go straight to Wurzburg, My friend Angie showed us where she grew up and hung out. Along the way she took us up to the highpoint where you can see a panoramic view of Estenfeld under the shadow of this lovely double cross marker (below). Yeah I had to stop on the way up a few times ( well only once really.. then I went really slowly :) ) but in the once I was up there it was worth the HIIKE! Seems like no matter where I travel to I always seem to end up hiking somewhere. Ha!
