San Juan de Limay

Fallen from the tree By ReinaMorena
San Juan de Limay (Limay) is located in the state of Esteli in the northern part of Nicaragua. Its about 2 hours from the city of Esteli and about 5 hours from Managua the capital of Nicaragua, by bus (good weather and road conditions permitting). Limay is known for its traditional sculptors of Marmolina or Soapstone, a very soft form of Marble. Marmolina is harvested from the surrounding mountians and typically hand crafted in Limay. Different artsist produce different pieces but if you ask they can do requests, if you know what you want and the prices are always right.

Taking a look around!

Looking around Limay you will see that many places seem like its in constant state of progress. Well its true. The country was hit with a huge hurricane and since then some of the more rual areas have been in a perpetual state of trying to build and rebuild, with much of the effort being undercut by the rainy seasons flooding. Some areas are doing well with outside help the people can get back to doing what they do best instead worrying about there homes and schools being washed away.

Good News!

The current President of Nicaragua (like him or not), Struck a deal with the Pres. of Venezuela to recieve oil aid to help with the energy crisis. That means there are no more rolling blackouts, that also means you can wake up to water in Limay! yeah!!!
