Holiday Inn Express: Near the action but not the noise
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I used this place several times with my girlfriend when I first moved over and it is in a good location near to Bradbury Sq (close to several of the better pubs).

Rooms are all ensuite with Sat TV.

Breakfast is a buffet style but is not included in the room tarriff so beware.

They routinely have weekend discount rates.

Unique Qualities: There is a nightclub called Orpheus and the Underworld to the rear so go for a street facing room if possible.

    Large private carpark

  • Stayed here several times when looking after clients. The rooms are all ensuite with and are very comfortable.

The hotel has a large seating area in the reception with a small bar off to the right. Snacks are available from nere but the hotel also has two good restaurants attached (La Scala bistro & Shiraz Restuarant).

The hotel is part of the Hastings Group which own several top hotels (Europa, Culloden, Slieve Donnard) in Northern Ireland.

Unique Qualities: Cross the Newtownards Road and you are faced with the long driveway up to Stormont Castle. There are great views over Belfast from the castle and the walk helps blow away any cobwebs from the previous night.

Complimentary access is available to the David Lloyd sports centre which is a few hundred yards alaong the road.

    Madisons Hotel: Handy location
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • Stayed here a few times & the rooms are extremely well equiped (Ensuite, plasma screens, ISDN access). The staff are very friendly and will happily advise guests on the best places to visit on a given night of the week.

The majority of the ground floor has been converted into a bar/restaurant and there is a club in the basement on weekends.

The bar remains open for residents and breakfast was a full on Ulster fry.

Unique Qualities: Extremely well located on Botanic Avenue

Holiday Inn: Quality Hotel in centre of the action   Check Rates
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • I used this for a Saturday night as it's excellently located near many a fine bar. The rooms are well equiped and the leisure centre looked superb (never had time to use it but had nice view of pool from room). The foyer bar remained open till 3am so I cannot comment on the quality of the breakfast.

Unique Qualities: I arrived in Belfast early but the staff were extremely helpful and managed to give me a room at 10am when the standard check-in is 2pm.

Park Avenue Hotel (158 Hollywood Road.): Handy for city airport
  • Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet]
  • Satisfaction:
  • I stayed here as it was close to a friends house, having driven passed it many a time when working in Belfast I never gave much notice but I really enjoyed my stay here. The staff were extremely helpful and the Ulster fry is an excellent way to start the day.

Good page Clive, I've picked up a few tips as I'm thinking of a visit in May. Will probably go BMI to City airport instead of Easyjet to Int'l. Cheers, Clive

Thanks for the hotel advice, Clive. I've been to Bushmills & Giants Causeway once, and looking forward to do some more Antrim coast driving. : )

Nice page Clive - looks like things have changed considerably from when I was last here... ummm... several years ago! :))
