Fontana: tremendous

Restaurant Name: Fontana
This is a very deceptive venue, the entrance is down a small alleyway then when you have climbed the stairs you encounter a small reception desk. From there the restaurant expands out to a huge seating area. The food here is excellent and is also well presented, served and priced. Local produce features highly and some of the fish dishes are exceptional.
Favorite Dish: It would be a shame to pick out one dish as sadly I didn't make it through the whole menu though I gave it a good shot.

Nick's Warehouse: Hidden away near the Cathedral

Restaurant Name: Nick's Warehouse
The restaurant is a converted warehouse in the cathedral quarter. There is a small bar area at the entrance and the main dining room is seperated from the kitchen by a glass wall so you can see your meals taking shape. I dined here on several occasions and cannot recommend it highly enough.
Favorite Dish: All ingredients are sourced locally where possible and the menu changes regularly. Great dining everytime so difficult to pickout a favourite.

Restaurant Name: Tedfords
Excellent restaurant in a great setting, the restaurant is a former ships chandler and retains a nautical theme with coastal charts as wall paper, portholes and plenty of brasswork. Dined here several times and have often recommended it to friends visiting Belfast. Was always a treat to dine out here. Friendly & helpfull staff but book to avoid disapointment as can be very busy (even for lunch).
Favorite Dish: The salmon was always good and the puddings are difficult to avoid.

The Dirty Duck: Holywood without the tinse(l)

Restaurant Name: The Dirty Duck
This is probably best termed a gastropub but I'm sure the owner Nelson would hate the term. Set on the shore in Holywood it is well worth the journey with many a fine dish. Bookings are recommended on weekends for the upstairs but food is served downstairs wherever you can find a space. Also recommended by CAMRA for it's beer.
Favorite Dish: Sweet Chilli Chicken Salad is always excellent as is the terriaki chicken.

Restaurant Name: Gingeroot
This restaurant has been open about 18 months and have dined here several times. Once was with a large group who all enjoyed their meals (even the ones who'd never ate indian before). The staff are very helpful and the owner is always keen to ensure you have a good time (was giving out some nibbles to our table to entice people towards certain items). the decor is very modern and there is an online menu on their excellent website.
Favorite Dish: Too many to choose

Restaurant Name: The Appartment
This is a bar/restaurant that does do some good food and has a great view out over City Hall. Some of the stools are more stylish than practicle but service is excellent and there is an extensive cocktail list. This is part of the Botanic Inns Ltd who own a number of quality bars around Belfast. Can be very precious on a Sat night when the drinking crowd takes over but has some good ambient sounds.
Favorite Dish: Bangers & champ

St_Vincent Mon Mar 24, 2008 11:40 UTC Good page Clive, I've picked up a few tips as I'm thinking of a visit in May. Will probably go BMI to City airport instead of Easyjet to Int'l. Cheers, Clive | Bilimari Thu Apr 27, 2006 04:31 UTC Thanks for the hotel advice, Clive. I've been to Bushmills & Giants Causeway once, and looking forward to do some more Antrim coast driving. : ) | Mariajoy Sat Dec 10, 2005 07:29 UTC Nice page Clive - looks like things have changed considerably from when I was last here... ummm... several years ago! :)) |
