This is the photo of large Mekong in Stung Treng dotted with small islands. It's the view behind the town, about 1 hr walking. Of course you can catch nice views directly from the city - but why wouldn't you walk?

2 days spent, then moved ahead to Kratie. Stung Treng is small town, some like it, some doesn't. It looks like many cambodian towns with newer buildings, but of things old there's not much left. But Mekong is there... and Khmer people here are friendly. Well, body language will do the communication so express yourself kindly.

Wet season will rise Mekong level for several meters and bring abundance of fish. Near, there are Irrawaddy dolphins. Someone can take you there. Talk directly to boat owners or let things be arranged by your guesthouse. It should be very easy.
