"Takeda Town" Kofu by Rabbityama

Kofu Travel Guide: 12 reviews and 40 photos

Kofu City is the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture. It's long and thin, like a cat's eye in the prefecture. It's famous as the former domain of the Takeda Shingen during the Warring States Period. Today many of the city's sites are connected to him, such as Takeda Shrine, the Kofu Gozan temples, the graves of his family members, and even his own grave are all here.

Although it's the capital city, it's not a very popular stop for tourists. Most people who visit Yamanashi Prefecture go to the Fuji Five Lakes area to see views of Mount Fuji, climb Mount Fuji, or go to the Fuji Q theme park, but Kofu is a nice, easy daytrip and there are actually views of Mount Fuji and the Japan Alps from the city.

My trip was to the sites mentioned above, but the city's most famous site is Shosenkyo Gorge, one of the most popular places to enjoy autumn leaves and nature in the fall.

Thank you! Sadly I didn't have enough time to visit the last temple of the Kofu Gozan so maybe some other time I will finish the small pilgrimage
