The Seneca-Iroquois National Museum is a great place for those who wish to learn about Native American culture and American history. There is a vast amount of historical information about the Seneca people, their interactions with Europeans, and their adaptations to modern America. There is also a variety of cultural information about the clans, marriage, government, beliefs, and stories of the Seneca people. For those interested in learning about the language of the Seneca, there is a language station where you can here words and phrases in the Seneca people's language. Also, throughout the exhibits, many animal names and items of the Seneca are listed with their Seneca names. The exhibits display a replication of a longhouse, the actual animals that each clan represents, baskets, clothing, brooches, and many other items from the Seneca people. The beadwork is especially beautiful and is said to be some of the best remaining Iroquois beadwork left in the world! There is also a small gallery of paintings, sculptures, and photographs of current Seneca people. The museum is highly educational and very fun and interesting!
The cost is $5.00 for adults. Students, Children, and Senior Citizens receive discounts!
The Museum is open Monday-Saturday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The museum closes during the month of January.
