"Historic Omihachiman" Omihachiman by Rabbityama

Omihachiman Travel Guide: 9 reviews and 28 photos

Omihachiman is home to one of Japan's old historic preservation districts. The buildings here are old merchant storehouses from the Edo Period. The town is within easy travel distance from Kyoto but doesn't have anywhere close to the number of tourists, so you can tour at leisure and get a feel for the old-world atmosphere.

The town is also home to two of the temples that make up the Saigoku 33 Temple Pilgrimage.

Omi Beef is the famous local dish. Although it is not as famous as some of Japan's other beef producers, it is still well-known and the taste is delicious!

You seems to like Shiga areas. Omihachiman is one of the places I would like to go in Shiga prefecture. But before that I would definitely visit Hikone to visit Genkyu-en Garden which appeared in James Clavell's Shogun in 1980.
