MY HOME TOWN

by Senoritasmile - last update: Apr 16, 2006

An ever-changing, captivating skyline

From Tower Bridge
I was born in Wimbledon, south west London, renowned for its tennis tournaments and a large green common where charistmatic creatures called Wombles, scurry around collecting and recycling all waste (Note: fictional characters, I do not want tourists wasting weeks trying to spot a womble at work!).
One word can very simply sum up London. DIVERSE. Food, fashion, culture, people, architecture, it's a mosiac of life, a patchwork of inspiration and there's no better place to see the merging of all these aspects than at one of London's many markets.

We are renowned for our open-air street markets, they are as much a part of our national heritage as the Tower of London or fish and chips! Vintage clothing alongside creations from hopeful new talents, abstract art displayed with victorian prints, eastern european crafts next to indian cooking utensils, our markets are sensual banquets not to be missed! I will add an overview of the ones I have frequently visited over the years in my tips. At the very least, make sure you make it to Camden or Portabello Rd.
I do not intend to just add all the well-known attractions here that you can find in any tourist guide or London info webpage, I don't believe that's what VT is about. My interests will obviously influence the information I include so anyone who's into fashion, art & design, markets, collectibles, antiques and good food, I hope to inspire you to visit. Best I leave London's nightlife to the hardcore party people (I'm more softcore now ;-) and as a South Londoner, I'll be building up my Surrey pages too - those leafy suburbs have some great hidden gems.
