If you're out travelling Malaga Province by car, stop by Fuente de Piedra, a small town in the north that is famous for having one of the largest natural lakes, with over 170 different bird species. It is spectacular to visit when flamingos migrate here in their 1000's.
The same town has a small donkey sanctuary, run by volunteers where there are over 120 donkeys of all shapes, sizes and ages that have been rescued from dire circumstances and are now well-cared for. They love visitors. Sanctuary is close to the Hotel Conde de la Laguna. Follow navy blue sign posts for 'Refugio de Burritos'. Say hello to white Farruquito - we adopted him :-)
I am not a great fan of the 'costas' but I do admit to enjoying the occasional visit to Benalmadena Marina. It makes me feel as if I'm on holiday! There are a good mix of restaurants centred around the moorings and a number of tourist shops. The biggest pull for me is the best pizzas ever at a place called Metro, situated in the heart of the marina but most of my visitors seem to love this location for a leisurely bar crawl whilst checking out the yachts and boats. A true tourist haven.
back of Antequera
Please see my Antequera page where I am adding most of the inland sights and things to do. Antequera is a large governing town situated at the heart of the Malaga province and is an ideal base for getting to see more of what the 'Malaguenos' have to offer.
'Lobo Park' is a conservation project set in vast natural park lands. Run by a german fella who trained animals in the forces and who has subsequently studied and hand-reared wolf cubs, it is a fascinating place to observe and learn more about pack animals, much of which can be related to your domestic dog.
There are several species of adult and young wolves in vast outdoor enclosures, including the rare white 'polar' wolf. Daniels guided tour is captivating and as many of the wolves have been personally hand-reared by him, their interaction is incredible. It's a great trip, for kids too as there is also a petting zoo and riding stables.
