ANTIGUA

ANTIGUA WITH AGUA VOLCANO IN THE DISTANCE
THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST PLACE IN GUATEMALA TO BE, IT IS A PEACEFUL AND SAFE PLACE TO BASE YOURSELF IN. THE OLD COLONIAL BUILDINGS MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A BORING OLD VILLAGE FROM THE OUTSIDE BUT ARE USUALLY POSH ON THE INSIDE WHICH INCLUDE BANKS, SHOPS, HOTELS, AND RESTAURANTS.

YOU'LL FIND THAT ALOT OF FOREIGN TOURISTS ARE LOCATED HERE ALONG WITH LOTS OF NICE RESTAURANTS,BARS, AND CLUBS. THE LOCAL MARKET WOULD BE WORTH CHECKING OUT IF YOU WANT TO BUY SOUVENIERS TO TAKE BACK HOME.

YOU CAN ALSO TAKE EXCURSIONS TO A FEW PLACES IN THE COUNTRY THROUGH TRAVEL AGENTS WHICH ORGANISE TRIPS TO TIKAL, LAKE ATITLAN, LIVINGSTON, PACAYA VOLCANO, ETC.

HOWEVER, WATCHOUT FOR THE LOCAL MAYA PEOPLE WHO WILL CONSTANTLY HASSLE YOU TO BUY SOME CRAFTS ETC. FROM THEM EVEN IF YOU SAY "NO".

It looks like you had a great time in Antigua Guatemala - beaut photos too! We only managed to slip over the Belize border for 2 days to see Tikal NP, but were impressed by the country in that short visit.
