ANCIENT CITY IN THE JUNGLE

by RAZOR-REN - last update: Jun 17, 2007

ABOUT AN HOUR'S DRIVE FROM FLORES IS THE ANCIENT MAYA CITY OF TIKAL. I FOUND THIS THE MOST IMPRESSIVE RUINS I'VE EVER SEEN AS IT'S CONFINED WITHIN A HUGE SITE WITH ALOT OF WALKING TO DO IN THE JUNGLE AS THE PYRAMIDS ARE SCATTERED ALL OVER THE PLACE. THERE ARE A HANDFUL OF PYRAMIDS YOU CAN CLIMB TOO TO TAKE AN IMPRESSIVE VIEW OF THE PETEN JUNGLE WITH OTHER PYRAMIDS STICKING OUT ABOVE THE TREES.

IF YOU PLAN ON VISITING THIS SITE YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED! VERY WORTH YOUR TIME.

Nice photos and tips on your experience at Tikal National Park! You are right, a definite 'must see' location and one that my wife and I also really enjoyed.

The bird was the Montezuma Oropendula (funky call-see my Tikal travelogue) and the monkeys were likely Howler Monkeys :) Lucky you, I didn't see any mammals :(
