Chez Emily

Why I live in Paris

Sacre Coeur
I've lived in Paris for the past 18 years. I first came in 1986 on a whim, fell in love, got married, went back to the States with ex-mate and then came back in 1988 to live permanently.

Although I divorced in 1999, I decided to stay on in Paris. Perhaps when you see the view from my balcony you will understand.

After "This is Where I live" and "Paris=my dream come true" I've finally decided on "Chez Emily". It is really amazing how many Chezs there are in Paris, perhaps you may find one with your name to take your picture in front of.

And of course, as background music, there is my favorite Gainsbourg song: La Javanaise, it's especially nice when done by Juliette Greco...

sha la la le la ..

J'avoue j'en ai bavé pas vous
mon amour
avant d'avoir eu vent de vous
mon amour

Ne vous déplaise
en dansant la Javanaise
nous nous aimions
le temps d'une chanson

A votre avis qu'avons nous vu
de l'amour
de vous a moi vous m'avez eu
mon amour

Ne vous déplaise
en dansant la Javanaise
nous nous aimions
le temps d'une chanson

Hélas avril en vain me voue
a l'amour
j'avais envie de voir en vous
cet amour

Ne vous déplaise
en dansant la Javanaise
nous nous aimions
le temps d'une chanson

La vie ne vaut d'être vécue
sans amour
mais c'est vous qui l'avez voulu
mon amour

Ne vous déplaise
en dansant la Javanaise
nous nous aimions
le temps d'une chanson...
Sunset over Sacre Coeur

More sunsets and some thoughts on Paris

Oui, c'est magnifique. this is yet another photo of my view.

I've been thinking about this page a lot and it is bringing back so many memories. When I first arrived in Paris and was so scared about having to wade through all my difficulties with the bureaucracy (social security, allocations familiales, etc.). When I spent days walking around with my daughter in her stroller just discovering everything. Every street was new and all so different.

Now I hope to share some of that. Thanks for visiting.

More views

I just never get tired of looking out of my window. Visits can be arranged but I cannot guarantee the weather. It's weird because we are way up north and so sometimes the sun sets at Sacre Coeur and sometimes near the Eifel Tower.

Here is a neat story about these skyline pictures. My daughter took most of them and I got the idea that the people at Sacre Coeur might like to see a different view of their church so I sent them off and to my surprise the Benedictine sisters wrote me a nice letter back thanking me and they even put one of the photos on their website !
Beautiful sunset in Paris

Lovely look at your hometown, Emily. Loved the restaurant tips, and the Ag Fair sounds interesting as well... sausagemakers, winemakers, cheesemakers. Merci. :)

What wonderful photos of Paris! What a wonderful view to have when you wake up. You were featured on the VT home page when I logged in, and I'm glad I stopped by to see what you had.

I love your Paris pages. I used to live in Belleville when I was studying French more than 20 yrs ago. Your page brought back old memories:-D

Paris VT pages are always enjoyable, you're fortunate to live there. Now you have posed a problem for me: to next visit during the Agricultural Fair or the Salon du Chocolat! :))
