Vientiane is charming

by aemilys - last update: Sep 2, 2006

I like Vientiane

The Arche
Vientiane was lots of fun. The morning market, having a beer by the Mekong, the delicious grilled fish, bookshops, trendy boutiques, easy internet access, the Mekong Riverside Minimart (I just love that name). I felt really safe and happy here.
Beer overlooking the Mekong

The Mekong

Part of the reason I was so happy to get to Vientiane was that I could fulfill my dream of having a beer by the Mekong. An emotional moment indeed.
Monks and wine

So French too

Laos was a French colony and so there is a decidely French feel to Vientiane. Vin de Paille from Jura - 69 USD a bottle, baguettes, wide tree lined streets. A certain elegance.

I enjoyed my short stay in Vientiane this autumn. Your tips and pics brought it all back. I bought all the post cards in that book shop! Bon anniversaire!
